The Virginia Highlands

The Virginia Highlands trail is one of the most beautiful places I have ever been, the views and wildlife combined to make a wonderous expirence. We drove from Tennessee to the Highlands State Park but the overnight backpackers lot was full so we drove up to Elk Gap. Elk Gap was a easier hike by far and im sorta happy we ended up taking it instead because we were not throughlly prepared for the weather and ended up needing to stay on the Appalachain Trail Shelter. We hiked a section of the Appalachain Trail, There are several options on where to set up camp, we heiked up to Pine Mountain but about 3 miles before Pine Mountain there is a really nice bald. The Appalachain Trail was defentily the harder of the two trails we ended up taking. From Pine mountain we went back just a little bit to get to the shelter.
